El martes 28, a las tres de la tarde, tuvo lugar en La Habana el primer Paseo del Observatorio LGTB (Lesbianas, Gays, Transexuales y Bisexuales) por el medio de la céntrica calle de Prado, partiendo de la esquina de Neptuno y hacia el mar. La fecha seleccionada rememora la masiva marcha por el orgullo gay que se celebrara en 1970 en Nueva York y que marcó una importante conquista de esas minorías. El desfile, de reducida representación, fue pacífico y no resultó interrumpido o reprimido por las fuerzas de la policía uniformada ni por los agentes de civil de la policía política que, sin embargo, abundaban en los portales adyacentes de la popular avenida.
Alrededor de una veintena de los miembros de dicha organización independiente marchó por el centro del viejo Paseo del Prado, enarbolando sus banderas multicolores y proclamando el derecho a la libre elección de sus preferencias sexuales y contra la discriminación a las minorías diferentes. Una marcha de esta naturaleza, protagonizada por una organización no adscrita al oficialista CENECEX que dirige Mariela Castro, no tiene antecedentes en Cuba, por lo que la poca representatividad alcanzada en esta primera edición no descarta su significación, y quizás tenderá a superarse en años venideros. Seguramente el temor que domina a los sectores vulnerables de la sociedad frente a las fuerzas represivas, unido al fuerte prejuicio social en torno a estos grupos fue un factor decisivo para que numerosos testigos se amontonaran en el área y una multitud silenciosa formada tanto por homosexuales como por heterosexuales curiosos no acostumbrados a tamaña osadía en nuestras calles, acompañara a los manifestantes solo a cierta distancia y desde los portales aledaños, sin incorporarse abiertamente al paseo. No podemos olvidar que hasta hace poco tiempo la homosexualidad era fuertemente perseguida y hostigada desde el poder, que sus miembros siguen estigmatizados y discriminados de diversas maneras y que, en general, la sociedad tiende a marginar a los diferentes.
La pequeñez del número de resueltos manifestantes, sin embargo, podría compensarse con la trascendencia del hecho, habida cuenta que se trata de la primera manifestación pública no oficialista, de carácter eminentemente cívico, que se produce en Cuba sin que haya sido prohibida o reprimida por las autoridades. No podía anticiparse hasta ese momento cuál sería la reacción de los represores de siempre, así pues hay que respetar el valor de los organizadores del pequeño evento que tienen la intención de ganar pacíficamente su propio espacio público. Quedó establecido por decisión de sus miembros que cada 28 de junio se producirá el Paseo LGTB en el mismo lugar.
Por otra parte, la institución oficial encabezada por la señora Castro Espín no da cabida al Observatorio LGTB. El afán de control oficialista no permite la existencia de organizaciones independientes de la sociedad civil, ni siquiera de aquellas que se remiten a un elemento tan particular como la libre elección de la sexualidad de los individuos y su derecho a ejercerla. Es decir, que tampoco los homosexuales escapan a la clasificación primaria de “revolucionarios” o “no revolucionarios”.
Debo admitir que me agradó comprobar que el Paseo LGTB estuvo libre de carteles políticos, de consignas a favor o en contra del sistema o de discursos de barricada. Tampoco hubo loas a los representantes del gobierno ni se desplegaron las socorridas imágenes de los cinco combatientes de la Seguridad del Estado presos en Estados Unidos, como suele ocurrir en las manifestaciones que convoca CENESEX. Ningún extravío ideológico contaminó la esencia cívica de la marcha del martes. Está por verse si se mantiene la tensa tolerancia exhibida este martes por las autoridades o si este es un preámbulo que, en alguna medida, convoque a un civismo más amplio de ciudadanos que representen los variados intereses que incluyan todo el complejo espectro de la sociedad cubana.
