Unfulfilled forecasts and deadlines
These days, I am submerging myself, again, in the procedures for permission to travel outside of Cuba. The possibility of my being at the Columbia University on October 14 for the Maria Moors Cabot ceremony is remote, but I continue with the paperwork. Nor do I have much hope of attending the presentation of my book in Brazil, even though that country’s senate has engaged in efforts to get me on the plane. All these difficulties to get permission to leave evoke for me the words of eighteen years ago of Carlos Aldana, a youngest son fallen into disgrace who, so they say, now gives classes in Marxism to older adults.
In an interview in 1991 for the Spanish magazine Cambio 16, the former number three in power in Cuba said: “This year Cubans will be able to travel abroad freely.” Only it didn’t specify if we were going to do it on the wings of our imaginations and if it would be in a year containing twelve months or nearly two decades. Read Yoani’s profile, she knows how the world outside is, she lived in Switzerland for a few years and decided to comeback to the Island,and fight from inside. All she wants for all cubans is the liberties that the free world enjoy.Liberties that she enjoyed when she was living in Europe. That’s why so many cubans from outside look up to her.She traveled the road less traveled.
She did what many of us wanted to do,but she had a change of heart and decided to do ortherwise. We decided to stay in others countries. I don’t regret my desicion. In fact, I don’t think I could never live in Cuba ever again, but I have nothing but admiration for Yoani and what she represnts.

hoy es 29 y no dejo de ver imajenes del concierto tan lindo que se dio en cuba y con tanto amor no deve ser facil para personas que no saven como lidiar con tanto acoso y lo hicieron no me canzo de darle gracias a juanes mas que por nada por sentir el dolor de un pueblo que no puede mas y no tiene ayuda por que eso un cubano no lo huviera podido hacer y el lo hizo por nosotros haguanto sin hablar sin contestar tantas criticas por que el savia no podia hablar antes de tiempo es lo maximo sin quitarle el merito a muchas personas valientes que en cuba luchan cada dia por que es facil hablar de lejos donde no te pasa nada pero los que lo hacen desde alli tengan todos mis respeto no es facil solo pensar en cuba duele

Yoani, I hope this time you are successful in getting permission to travel.
Hope you don’t mind but I’ve sent an email to the Cuba Mission at the United Nations urging the Castro government to abolish the requirement for Cuban citizens to obtain exit permits before leaving the country. This requirement is in direct contravention of Article 13(2) of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights which states: “Everyone has the right to leave any country, including their own, and to return to their country.”

Ay,mijita! Tu vas a sufrir lo mas por ser la primera. Por favor de disculparme para mi Espanol tan malo, pero quisiera escribirte en su lengua en caso tu tienes tiempo de leer eses pocos palabras. Asi tu puedes entender que existen muchos como yo, de los Estados Unidos que no son Latinos, pero sientan un affinidad contigo por su manera valiente. Los Pinchones tienen mucho miedo de Ti, te lo juro. Habian esperado, y ahora no pueden tocarte-somos todos muy vigilante en ti- y prefieron que tu te quedas en Cuba sin permiso de salida, y se acceptan las malas palabras que mucha gente dicen contra eso permiso denegada de viajar. Por Que tienen MAS miedo de Ti afuera diciendo la verdad al Mundo, y seguro ponerte mas celebrada ya. Asi aun tu era la primera, vas a ser la ultima de recibir permiso de salir. Y cuando tu estas en el avion al final, sabemos que era un Cambio. Gracias por leer. Suerte siempre, y nunca falta de saber- Te Vigilimos!

I hope Yoanni Sanchez can leave Cuba and go to her meetings. And that the evil Cuban government will let her return to Cuba. They may keep her out as a troublemaker. Or they may put her in prison for her “crimes” against the state–telling the truth about their failed state.

Espero que Yoanni Sanchez puede salir de Cuba y ir a sus juntas. Y que el malo gobierno Cubano permiera retournar a Cuba. Puedan evitar su retourno como una “busca ruido”. O puedan ponerle en carcel por sus “crimines” contra el estado–diciendo la verdad de su estado fallado.

Quisiera por este medio poder llegar a los altos funcionarios del gobierno de Cuba a Raul Castro a Mariela que en tantas ocaciones habia hablado con ella cuando visitaba en el departamento de proyectos a Juana Paz Gutierrez que por favor le den una tregua al pueblo de Cuba que dejen salir de verdad a todo el que desee viajar y que subasten mas los puestos de abastecimientos de los cubanos para que no sufran mas las miserias el hambre y las necesidades USTEDES EL GOBIERNO TIENEN PARA ESO Y MUCHO MAS NUESTROS HIJOS NIETOS TIENEN TAMBIEN DERECHO A DISFRUTAR DE LO BUENO DEL MUNDO! no es justo que paises con tan bajo nivel cultural vivan mejor que mis compatriotas cubanos hasta cuando?? dejen los presos politicos libres dejen que la gente se exprese libremente pues la LIBERTAD es el derecho de todo hombre al nacer, siempre que no perjudiquemos a otro, les pido que alimenten al pueblo que les devuelvan su LIBERTAD QUE EL PUEBLO DE CUBA NECESITA ABRIR LOS OJOS, no es justo que se mantenga un pueblo tan enserrado por 50 anos, los cubanos estan virgen ante el mundo, por eso el cubano cuando sale de Cuba esta tan inocente, esta tan ciego que cualquiera los engana, sean justos, por nuestras venas corre la misma sangre se puede culpar a los EUA por el bloqueo, pero hablemos de una vez y todas CUBA no ha tenido bloqueo con EUROPA entonces porque tantas miserias?
